JUNE 15, 2023

During winter, you may notice that your skin is drier and flakier. The cold air, low humidity levels and wind rid your skin of its moisture, leaving your hands, feet and face taking the hit.

However, there are foods that you can consume daily to help replenish your skin and leave it feeling healthy, while also nourishing your body from the inside out.

1. Dark, Leafy Greens
Rich in Vitamin C, these delicious vegetables help boost immunity as well as aid in collagen production. They are also full of antioxidants and vitamins/minerals such as Vitamin K, Iron, Folate and Calcium, which are beneficial for heart and bone health.

2. Sweet Potatoes & Pumpkin
Sweet potatoes and pumpkin (as well as other orange vegetables and fruits) contain Vitamin A which support skin, eye and reproductive health, along with immune function. A diet high in Vitamin A (or the phytonutrient beta carotene) can help prevent cell damage, skin aging and hyperpigmentation.

Orange vegetables are also full of Vitamin C to assist with the skin’s structural component.

3. Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds, or pepitas, are little green powerhouse seeds. They provide healthy fats and protein and are rich in zinc. Zinc is an essential nutrient for immune health (especially when combined with anything containing Vitamin C, while also helping your body absorb and utilise Vitamin A.

Oats contain dietary fibre, which helps maintain beneficial bacterial colonies to form a healthy and happy gut. A healthy gut is important as it can influence a number of different benefits such as improved mood, and even your skin.

Salmon is one of the most nutritious foods on the planet. It is full of polyunsaturated fats called Omega-3 fatty acids. The most beneficial Omega-3 fatty acids, occur naturally in fish, in the form of Eicosapentanenoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA).
