LET’S TALK HEAVY METALS: WITH NICOLE THOMAS

October 15th, 2025

Hands up if you’ve been dealing with sore, achy joints, brain fog, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, or even mental health concerns!

You’re not alone — and while these symptoms can stem from many causes, have you ever considered that heavy metals might be part of the problem?

We’re exposed to low levels of heavy metals almost every day — and over time, this exposure can accumulate in the body and wreak havoc. Unfortunately, heavy metals are tricky to avoid, and some of us may even be born with traces passed down from our parents’ exposure.

But don’t put this in the “too hard” basket just yet. The key is understanding where we can reduce exposure and which foods can help bind and eliminate these metals naturally from the body.

Where Heavy Metals Hide

Heavy metals can be found in everyday items and environments, including:

  • Unfiltered drinking water

  • Exhaust fumes

  • Common beauty and personal care products

  • Cleaning chemicals

  • Dental fillings

  • Keys and coins

  • Renovation materials and old paint

  • Pesticides

  • Vapes and cigarettes

  • Large fish (like tuna and swordfish)

  • Silicone and saline implants

  • Certain cookware

Each metal affects the body in different ways, but generally, they can disrupt mitochondrial function, interfere with mineral and nutrient absorption, and cause oxidative stress — all of which prevent your cells from working properly and can contribute to illness over time.

What You Can Do

Here are a few practical steps to reduce exposure and support your body’s natural detox processes:

  • Opt for natural and non-toxic beauty products.

  • Wear protective masks during renovations.

  • Drink filtered water whenever possible.

  • Swap out non-stick cookware for stainless steel or cast iron (check with the manufacturer if unsure).

Some people also explore chelation therapy — through injections or oral treatments — to help bind and remove heavy metals from the body. Others prefer natural alternatives, such as heavy metal detox smoothies, inspired by Anthony William’s Medical Medium books. These smoothies are considered a gentle, non-invasive way to support detoxification.

Why It Matters

Supporting the body through detoxification may help reduce discomfort and improve overall well-being. While detox methods vary, consistency and patience are key. Even small, consistent changes can lead to noticeable improvements in how the body feels and functions.

By being mindful of sources of exposure and choosing healthier alternatives, it’s possible to take meaningful steps toward reducing the effects of heavy metals on the body.
